1. Academic Transcript Conversion & GPA Benchmarks
Pakistani academic marks must be translated into the standard American 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) scale. While top-tier Ivy League universities typically demand a 3.7+ CGPA, hundreds of excellent, accredited state universities and private institutions admit Pakistani students with CGPAs ranging between 2.5 and 3.2.
Undergraduate applicants submit Intermediate (HSSC / Pre-Engineering / Pre-Medical / ICS / I.Com) mark sheets or Cambridge O/A-Levels certificates. Graduate applicants submit 4-year Bachelor’s (BS/BBA/BE) degree transcripts.
2. English Language Proficiency Standards
Because instruction is conducted exclusively in English, universities mandate formal testing scores unless an exemption applies:
• Duolingo English Test (DET): Rapidly becoming the most convenient and cost-effective test for Pakistani students, requiring scores between 105 and 130.
• IELTS Academic: Standard minimum scores range from 6.0 to 6.5 for undergraduate and 6.5 to 7.0 for graduate admissions.
• TOEFL iBT: Minimum benchmarks range from 79 to 100.
• English Medium of Instruction (MOI) Waivers: Certain institutions grant test waivers to Pakistani graduates from universities where the sole language of instruction was English.
3. Statement of Purpose (SOP) & Letters of Recommendation
Your SOP is your personal narrative. It must articulate why you are passionate about your chosen major, describe your academic research or projects, explain why you chose this specific institution, and detail how the degree empowers your career goals. Accompanying this are 2 to 3 Letters of Recommendation (LOR) from professors or employers who can vouch for your intellect, character, and work ethic.
